This week I had the unique opportunity to speak on Shak’s menopause month live about sleep and the menopause. check out www.fitnesswithshikira.co.uk Throughout this month Shak is looking into different aspects of menopause. Yesterday she was joined by guest speaker Dana it was so inspirational. It is important to remember that each woman will have different symptoms, different needs and each one is valid. Early intervention can make a huge difference on the changing sea of hormones,as well as finding the right support.

Whilst working as a consultant for the sleep charity, menopause and sleep kept coming up again and again.Thankfully there is new research and education continuing on menopause, including menopause and sleep.
Five facts about menopause
1. There are 3 stages to menopause. Perimenopause, menopause and post menopause.
2. There are roughly 3, 904, 727, 342 women in the world and as menopause is a natural process that all women will go through it., can start around 40 and can take years with menopause being 50.
3. Change to lifestyles, appropriate diet and appropriate exercise can all make positive impact as well as HRT, CBTi and herbal remedies can support on the menopause journey.
4. They are adding menopause to the national curriculum
5. Premature menopause starts before 40, average age for perimenopause is 45+ the average age for menopause is 51+ it can take years to transition though menopausal transition.
Sleep is so important, as hormone levels drop, anxiety increases so sleep decrease, which in turns raise anxiety so sleep decreases so it becomes a cycle. In menopause hormone levels change they have an massive impact on sleep.
